Achille spends his mornings on the balcony, stretched in a patch of sunlight, until it grows too warm and he begins to pant. His favorite word is “biscottino,” Italian for little biscuit. Back from his walk, he takes part in the ritual cleaning as if it were serious work: “front paw, then back paw.” In the evening, when he decides it’s time for bed, he quietly leaves the living room and goes to the bedroom, where his little bed waits for him.
